I can’t believe that I am almost halfway through my time here in South Asia, it has flown by. Since my last update my teammate and I have moved into our own house, and have been busy teaching at the schools, learning how to cook like they do here, and learning how to say some basic things in the language. We have also had some problems with the water and electricity at our house that we have had to take care of, and we both have also had to deal with some minor sicknesses. Despite all that, things have been going really well. I have been having a wonderful time with the deaf students! I teach English to grades first through seventh, six days a week. (Caitlyn is pictured above with some of the Deaf students from the school). Saturday is the day off here and the day we go to services. My teammate and I have been attending an
amazing youth group on Saturday afternoons for the past couple of weeks. In my free time I usually hang out with the deaf students: we go on walks, play board games, watch tv, play ping pong, or I watch them play cricket or soccer. This Thursday they have their final exams at the deaf school, then a short break before they start the new school year. I am very sad that I will have to say
goodbye to my seventh grade students, because the deaf school does not
go up pass the seventh grade, and they will be graduating. I am also not looking forward to having to say goodbye to all the deaf students when I leave in about three and one half months. Besides teaching at the schools, my teammate and
I have also made many new friends here including other cross-cultural
workers, and some medical students from Europe who are doing their
internships at the local hospital, and also the kids in our neighborhood. One day a couple of weeks ago, a storm came through the town here, so my teammate and I stayed at our supervisors’ house instead of going to the schools. During that time we were able to share with a friend of our supervisors who is not a believer, but who is very close to believing.
Please pray that God will continue to work in this lady’s life.
Please also pray for continued opportunities to share at the schools,
and for God to work in the lives of the students, teachers and
principals at the schools.
